While there are a variety of factors that contribute to online success, no one can dispute the effectiveness of the following proven tips:

1. You must have a plan. The number one mistake that most people who attempt to make money online make is they don’t have a plan of any kind. There’s an age old proverb by Thomas Edison that accurately states: “He who fails to plan, plans to fail.” Develop a well-thought-out plan for what you want to do and how you plan to do it – a roadmap to your goals if you will. Write it down, and refer to it often. Not only can you use it to monitor your progress, it will help keep you on track as well.

2. You have to work hard. Many people mistakenly approach making money online with the idea of making a quick buck – easy riches if you will. And while a rare few achieve instant gratification and realize success rather quickly, the vast majority get hit with a brutal dose of reality. Making money online is neither quick or easy. It often requires time, patience, discipline and hard work. There are no shortcuts. Famous philanthropist Andrew Carnegie once wrote, “anything in life worth having is worth working for.” Those are words I try to live by everyday.

3. You must be passionate. I am constantly amazed at how many people approach making money online without any passion whatsoever. Passion is like a high-powered furnace that exists deep inside of you. It just needs to be fired up. So how do you fire up your passion? Easy. Do things that you’re passionate about – things that you truly enjoy doing. Why? Because passion is a key component to success. It motivates you. It keeps you focused. It makes you determined to keep going against even the most astronomical of odds. It helps you find solutions to your problems.

It’s been my experience that people who are truly passionate about whatever it is that they’re involved with have a level of determination, discipline and commitment that most people simply don’t have. It has been said that “the greater someone’s passion, the greater their level of success.” I believe that to be absolutely true. If you’re not passionate about what you’re doing, you’re merely spinning your wheels!

4. You have to believe in what you’re doing. There’s an old saying that states: “faith can move mountains.” And while that may not necessarily be true in a literal sense, belief in yourself, your ability and what you’re trying to accomplish can indeed be powerful. Let me give you an example of what I’m talking about. This past summer Tiger Woods won his third U.S. Open championship and 14th major title.

It was an unlikely victory for Woods, who was physically handicapped because he played the entire tournament with a broken leg. Two days after winning the championship, Woods revealed that he would miss the remainder of the 2008 season because he was having major surgery on his leg. When asked by reporters why he jeopardized his career by playing with such a serious injury, Woods simply replied, “I wanted to win.” Now if that’s not having faith in your ability to get the job done, I don’t know what is. Bottom line: To make money online, you have to believe in what you’re doing!

5. You must follow-up with prospects. Did you know that the average e-commerce website has a conversion ratio of around 1 percent? That means 99 percent of visitors to your website will leave without purchasing anything. That’s why following up with your prospects is so important. If you’re serious about making money online, you absolutely, positively must collect your visitors names and e-mail addresses so that you can follow-up with them at a later date.

The most effective method of following up is with a well-written, informative newsletter that not only provides your subscribers with useful information, but skillfully promotes your products and services as well. An easy to use follow-up platform would be a service like Constant Contact.

n the last part I covered how to generate income through writing blogs and creating your own website. In this article I will be discussing affiliate marketing and how this can be used to make money online.

Affiliate Marketing is when you promote other people’s products (or services) for a percentage of the sale. As an affiliate marketer, you usually do not require any special training and best of all do not need start up capital.

A great advantage of affiliate marketing is that you do not have to be concerned with developing products and creating ideas, which allows you to concentrate on marketing the product/service.
The aim of affiliate marketing is to drive traffic i.e people surfing the web to the product owner’s (affiliate) product page, allowing them to convert the prospective client into a buyer. The more targeted your traffic is to the affiliate site, the higher your conversion rate and the more commission you receive. Incidentally conversion rate is simply the number of people who purchase a product divided by the number who click through to the affiliate product page.

Using pay per click advertising is a vital tool for anyone looking to make money online. In this article, I discuss the key areas required for effective PPC advertising. Google AdWords is the most popular PPC scheme and there are a number of factors that determine the success or failure of any AdWords campaign.

Before beginning a campaign you must have clearly defined goals for example are you trying to send customers to a review page of an affiliate product your advertisment will not be aimed at selling the product but designed to encourage click throughs to the review page.

The aim of PPC is to drive targeted traffic to a specific page where a pre-sell via a review or a direct sell is made, a % of which you receive as commission. ” Display URL. The more relevant this appears to be to the keywords you’re bidding on, the greater chances of a click. For example if you are selling dvd copy software the name of the software should be used.

” Landing page URL. This needs to be specific to your keywords and advertisement. If you’re bidding on Madonna then you shouldn’t be sending people to a page about trainspotting. If it’s not relevant Google will penalise you by charging a lot more per click.

” Budget. How much are you willing to pay per click? Estimate how many visitors it will take for a single conversion (sale) start of around 1% and work out from your commission how much you can afford to pay and still make money.

For example: If your commission is $30 per sale at conversion rate of 1% that means that every 100 clicks = 1 sale.
Therefore $30/100 or $30 x (1/100) = $0.30 pay per click is break even so a figure less than this for advertising is required to make a profit.

” Daily Budget. The amount of money you are willing to spend in a 24 hour period. Keep in mind that if you’re making money, it’s okay to spend money.

These are just some of the basics associated with creating a successful AdWords campaign. The truth of the matter is that being able to consistently make money online with Google AdWords takes knowledge and experience. The more you work with pay per click advertising, the better results you’ll have.

In the first part of these series, i mentioned ezinearticles as one of the most important sources of traffic to a webmaster. Yes, you can expect enough targeted traffic to make money online, live comfortably, pay your numerous bills and actually be independent as you command authority in your niche by only writing for ezinearticles. The reason for these is simple, these site has a current google rank of “6″ and an alexa rank of around 400. These means that the Google search engine robot visits it a couple of times every day looking for fresh content that is published here and in 90% of the cases ranks the information within the first ten results of its pages. If you publish the same information on a rank two or three or four web site for that matter, chances are that you might never see it on google first page.

You do not only need to write though, you can submit links pointing to your site in another very interesting way. Having a lot of links pointing to your website from a lot of authority sites i.e. sites with a page rank of “5″ and above, makes your site climb the rankings in the search engines as well. The Google search robot comes to these sites more often and spiders them more deeply than if you were, say, focusing your efforts on article syndication alone. The two best examples that i use daily are technorati and icerocket. Every time you publish an article on your site, create some tags for your keywords pointing to icerocket and technorati repctively. These article is about how to make money online, to tag technorati you need to place a tag like this within your post http://www.technorati.com/tags/make+money+online, and an icerocket tag will look like this http://www.icerocket.com/tags/make+money+online. Both these sites need to be referenced from your site in order for them to spider it. But doing these will ensure that your tugged keyword is placed near the top of their pages, thus guaranteeing you the traffic that you need. 

Before we go to part three of these series, it would be prudent for me at this time to inform you of the second most important tactic that i use to make money online. You may not be privy to these but at this point you may want to know that there are two different types of websites that saturate the web i.e. the static and the dynamic website. A static website is the most common. The information on this kind of site does not change and it does not improve once the owner uploads the site on his server. It stays constant. Then there is the new version of websites taking the web by storm. These are refered to as blog based websites. I use WordPress, it is a very stong content management system, if you really know how to use it. These platform allows me to interact with ezinearticles, technorati, icerocket and others in ways that would not be possible with a static site.

Search engines love blogs, it is the freshness of their content that brings their spiders to blogs. People love them also as they build communities around the various niches, and as you may well know, an interacting community is targeted and ready to buy your products since your credibility is guaranteed. I will have to advise you here though, download the recent wordpress software at their site. At this time that am writing this, the most recent is 2.5.1, the wordpress hosted blog has so many limitations and will not work well for you since you may not be able to tweak it in a way that will not be noticeable to your clients.
